Maesism is the belief that there is a single creator God know as Maes. This entity created the Universe and everything in it. Originally Maes created a race who he embodied with some of his own powers to control nature however the small group of beings began ignoring the rules of Maes and using their powers to cause mischief. Having called them all together Maes issued a decree for their disobedience their physical bodies would become finite. He however promised them that should they each ask Maes for forgiveness each day he would permit an eternal part of their bodies to live in a paradise once their physical ones ended. Failure to follow his rules or gain forgiveness would result in their spiritual body being sent to a place of torture for the rest of eternity. For a while this worked until one of these beings who is now called simply "The One Without Name" rebelled. His siblings joined with him and were defeated by Maes with ease. The majority of the siblings begged for forgiveness and true to his word Maes allowed them to have their spiritual bodies continue with him. "The One Without Name" and three others though were cast into torture. Today it is believed that occasionally "The One Without Name" can roam the world trying to corrupt others.
His war over Maes now had a world without any superior life and while the animals of the world brought him some amusement his desire for the adoration of someone was unfilled. As a result Maes created from rock the first human man and from silk the first human female. He gave them the same set of rules that he had given the original creatures and these followed it to perfection. Maes was so pleased with the results and the adoration that he began creating other humans and still does to this day.
Throughout history from time to time Maes has sent Guides to visit humanity when it is needed and these Guides have helped ensure Maes gets the adoration they desire and reminds humanity of its duties.
THE LAWS OF MAES
1. All humans should strive to be the best they can.
2. All humans will at times fail.
3. When failing you must seek forgiveness of Maes
4. You must ask Maes for forgiveness everyday
5. The Guides shall set a path for the faithful to achieve paradise
6. Humanity should create good order to protect other creations of Maes
7. Rituals must be performed each morning to thank Maes for life, each evening to ask forgiveness and at set times of the year.
THE PARADOX
This is something referred to be Theologians that has created a strange concept among the faith that has developed over time. For you to be able to ask for forgiveness each day it is neccessary to do something to be forgiven for. As such followers of Maes face a problem, if they lead the most perfect life each day then they have nothing to ask forgiveness for and therefore can not ask Maes to do so. As such a practice has developed where the Priests of Maes will allow certain "evils" to be considered minor. These are things that Maes does not approve of but can forgiven without too much concern by Maes. They include, but are not limited to.
1) Consuming substances that will cause temporary change to the human body. For example some drugs and alcohol. So some of the faithful will consume a glass of wine to ensure they have something to ask for forgiveness for.
2) Purposely damaging their own body. As each human is a physical and spiritual body created directly by Maes it is an object worthy of praise in its own right. Doing something intentionally to harm it is considered bad. This has even seen a sect known as the "portador de lĂnea" or "line carriers" who mark each day of their existence with a tiny tally tattoo. Some of their adherents have arms, legs, backs covered in thousands of tiny tally marks as the tattoo is classed as damaging the body.
3) Sex is considered to have been created as a way of showing love for one special creation of Maes. By having sex for pleasure rather than child-creation you are going against the idea of it being a way of Maes allowing a new creation to arrive on Earth. As such protected sex, masterbation or unmarried sex is considered a sin.
4) Lying - Telling a lie is considered dishonest so long as it is not done to create further harm or mislead. As a result it is not uncommon for someone when asked a simple question by a family member such as "Where have you been?" for the respondent to give an outragouesly wrong answer first, such as "The Moon" thus allowing the small sin to take place so the individual can later ask for forgiveness.
